I am now playing catch up with the blog. We have just arrived in Aix-en-Provence at about 5:00 pm local time and the accommodations are quite good.We are staying in the Grand Hotel Roi Rene.
Today started with our group boarding our bus and meeting Joe McClean our guide for today and tomorrow. We traveled a short distance to a small town called L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue a medieval canal line town with waterwheels and an interesting little market.
From here we drove to the town of Gordes. Simply spectacular, the town sits on the top of a small mountain and continues to be built on the steep cliffs. Beautiful. We enhanced the local economy purchasing two pillow cases to be used in the living room at LHR. We had a significant amount of free time and enjoyed a lunch consisting of a baguette, brownie and a can of beer for 7.50 Euros, Jill’s was slightly higher as she upgraded her desert.
We visited a vineyard and did a wine tasting consisting of two whites and two reds. The name of the winery is Domaine de la Citadelle in Menerbes. This is a relatively new winery and their products are unfortunately only available in Quebec. We did make a purchase of a very nice white for all of eight Euros.
We left for Aix en Provence mid afternoon, which brings everyone up to date. We are heading out to dinner shortly and we have been promised a excellent meal!
